GOLD PANNING TOUR AT INDIAN VALLEY MINE
- Adult Ages 5+
Get out of the city of Anchorage and take the Turnagain Arm Shuttle to Indian Valley Gold mine. This self-guided Goldpanning adventure is an opportunity to visit a real mine that helped shape the area. The Goldpanning Tour is truly ideal for the independent traveler who enjoys breathtaking views of Turnagain Arm. We will pick you up at 11:30 a.m. and take you direct to Indian Valley Mine with a scenic stop at Beluga Point. You will have approximately one hour to pan for gold then another driver will pick you up at aproximetly 1:05 p.m. making your return time to Anchorage at approximately 1:20 p.m. We advise you to check in as soon as you arrive so you will have ample time to pan for gold.
How does gold panning work? Gold is much heavier than ordinary sand, nineteen times heavier than an equal amount of water, therefore gold sinks to the bottom of the pan before the dirt settles. We will show you how to separate the sand, rocks and dirt from the gold using the old time gold miner’s technique. With the right swirling motion, gold will stay on the bottom while you wash away the dirt. When you start seeing some color in the bottom of your pan, we’ll help you put the gold into a vial filled with water and seal it for you to take home. The children really get a kick out of learning how to pan for gold and getting to take it home.
NOTE: This is a self-guided tour which means you will be responsible for payment for Gold Panning pay dirt buckets. Buckets of Pay Dirt: $20, $50 and $100 paydirt buckets are available. All buckets have gold!
